Coming soon for Windows and Android

Your phone's photos, safe on your own computer.

Phones fill up. Cloud storage charges a fee every month, forever. Local Backup turns the computer you already have at home into the place your family's photos, videos and files are kept. Yours, with no monthly bill.

See how it works

  • One computer for the whole family, a private space for each person
  • Connect a phone once by scanning a code on the computer
  • Every copy is checked on the computer before it counts as saved

Sound familiar?

Your memories deserve a better home than a rented one.

"Storage almost full"

Every phone fills up eventually, and the only choices seem to be deleting memories or paying for more space.

A fee every month, forever

Cloud storage is rented. Stop paying and your photos are at risk. Add a few family members and the bill keeps climbing.

Someone else's servers

Your family's private photos live on a company's computers, under rules you didn't write and can't change.

The answer is already sitting at home.

Local Backup is a small app for the computer you already own. Your family's phones send their photos, videos and files to it, and everything is kept in ordinary folders on your own disk. No rent, no strangers, no surprises.

How it works

Set it up once. Then forget about it.

One person installs it on the family computer. Everyone else just connects their phone and signs in.

  1. 1

Install it on the family computer

One setup file on your Windows PC, no technical questions. Add an account for each person in the house, with their own folder and their own storage limit. Close the window and Local Backup keeps running quietly in the background.

    • A private folder for each person, on your own disk
    • You decide how much space each person gets
  2. 2

    Connect each phone once

Open the app on the phone and scan the code shown on the computer. The phone asks you to confirm the computer's name, then you type the short code the computer shows. That's it: the phone now knows your computer, and only your computer.

    • Each code works once and expires, so nobody can reuse it
    • Don't recognise a phone? Reject it right on the computer
  3. 3

    Sign in and back up

Each person signs in with their own name and password and sees only their own things. When a photo is sent, the computer saves it, reads it back and checks that it's complete before the phone says Saved. If the connection drops, it picks up where it left off.

    • Deleting a photo on the phone never deletes the copy on the computer
    • Nobody sees anyone else's photos

Everyday use

Made for real households.

Phone full again?

Send your photos and videos to the computer at home instead of deleting them or buying more cloud space. Soon, the app will also back up new photos on its own and help you clear space on the phone once the computer has a checked copy.

One computer for the whole family

Mom, Dad, the kids: everyone gets their own account and their own private folder on the same computer. Nobody sees anyone else's photos, and there's no per-person subscription.

Grandparents' photos, safe without a monthly bill

Set up an account for them on your computer and connect their phone once. From then on, their photos have a home with the family, and nobody has to remember to pay for anything.

Switching phones

Everything you backed up stays on your computer, so a new phone starts with nothing lost. Connect the new one and sign in with the same account. Bringing photos back onto the phone is coming soon.

Features

Simple for the family. Careful with your memories.

An account for everyone

Each person gets their own folder, their own storage limit and their own password. Only the person at the computer can add or remove accounts.

Connect a phone in a minute

Scan the code on the computer, type the short number it shows, done. No account to create online, no settings to dig through.

Checked, not just "uploaded"

A photo only counts as saved after the computer has written it down, read it back and confirmed it's complete. You can ask the phone to double-check any copy.

Picks up where it left off

Lose Wi-Fi halfway through a long video? The upload pauses and continues from where it stopped, not from the beginning.

Nothing disappears by accident

Backup only ever adds. Deleting a photo on the phone, or disconnecting the phone, never deletes anything on the computer.

One setup file, nothing else

Everything the computer needs comes in a single Windows setup. No extra downloads, no technical steps, and it runs quietly in the background.

Privacy

Only your family can get in.

Your computer is private. Local Backup keeps it that way, while still letting your family's phones reach it over the internet.

  • Each person needs their own password, on a phone that was connected at your computer. Being on the same Wi-Fi, or knowing an address, gets nobody in.
  • Settings can only be changed at the computer itself, never from the internet. Adding people, removing phones and resetting passwords all happen at your desk.
  • Lost a phone? Disconnect it from the computer and it can't reach your photos any more. Reset a password and that person is signed out everywhere.
  • Wrong passwords slow things down. A few wrong tries and the phone has to wait, so guessing doesn't work.

Good to know: the photos are kept on your computer as ordinary files, so you can open and recover them. That also means whoever uses that computer can see them, just like any photo on a home computer.

Plain promises

A few honest things

  • Your computer needs to be on. Phones can only send to it, or get things back from it, while it's awake and connected to the internet. If it's off, the phone simply waits.
  • It backs up photos, videos and files. Not apps, messages or settings. It's a home for your memories, not a full copy of the phone.
  • Backups run when the phone allows. Phones decide when apps may work in the background, so we won't promise an exact time. You can always start one yourself.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is there a monthly fee?

No. Your photos go to your own computer over your own internet connection, and that costs nothing extra to run. A few home networks can't be reached directly; if reaching one ever needs a paid service, we'll say so clearly up front.

Can my whole family use it?

Yes. The person who owns the computer creates an account for each family member. Everyone connects their own phone, signs in with their own name and password, and sees only their own things.

What if my computer is off?

The phone waits. It shows that the computer can't be reached right now and continues when it's back on. Nothing is lost in the meantime.

Do I need to be good with computers?

No. One setup file on the computer, a few names and passwords, and a code to scan on each phone. No router settings and no technical steps.

Does it replace Google Photos or iCloud?

It replaces the part you pay for: the storage. Your originals live on your computer instead of a rented cloud. It doesn't try to replace sharing, editing or the other things those apps do.

What about Mac and iPhone?

Windows and Android come first. Mac and iPhone are planned to follow, and we'll only call them supported once they're properly tested on real devices.
